Re-Re-Location

Well, we've decided to make a home in Asheville, NC. Found a small cottage that has space for me to set up shop and start doing this sewing thing for real. There's a really strong emphasis on craft and locally made products here, and I've already had a lot of interest in and support for what I want to do, so I'm really looking forward to getting down to work this summer. I'll let folks know once I get things in order, then I can start taking your orders.

I bought this Union Special coverstitch machine just before we left. It's been painted green for some reason, and it isn't mounted to the table very well at all, but it's going to make some great belt loops!

Safety Stitch

Working on the safety stitch machine today. It's pretty much there, but the underside of the chainstitch (white stitching, on the right piece) isn't forming right - arrghh...

Basement Shop (work in progress)

Finally got the Reece buttonholer working, it was very gunked-up and stuck. Still has a few issues (like sometimes unraveling the buttonhole after it's made).

I don't have all of the machines going yet, but I do have the one's that I need for shirt-making working. This week I'll make one and see how it all turns out.

More Machines

I have most of the machines cleaned and functioning now, just have a few to work on. The timing on the gray Singer coverstitch machine is off, so I'm trying to re-set it myself; once that's done I'll start selling off a few of the machines that I don't really need.

A New Year

Happy New Year everybody! I haven't had a chance to post much since we've been back in FLA. For some reason just about everything we've tried to do has been unexpectedly challenging since we've been back here. On the plus side though I just purchased 11 commercial sewing machines for an exceptionally good price. They all need a lot of cleaning up, most need new motors, new belts, and who knows what else. Once I get 'em going I'll have just about all of the sewing machines that I need to do the work I've been wanting to do.

At the moment Katie and I are still waiting to move into our garage apartment. After that I can get the machines out of my parents garage, and then start tinkering with them. I've got a big learning curve ahead of me, but I'm really looking forward to what I'll be able to produce.

Also, I want to acknowledge all of the folks
who have been contacting me through Etsy and who like what I do. Thank you for patiently waiting for me to get set-up and make you something in your size (rather than just making things in my size). Your support is appreciated!

Take care of each other this year,

Russell

I'll post more pics and details later, but I have to mention here that part of this lot includes a 1930's Union Special two needle chain-stitch machine, with a felled seam attachment. I'm pretty excited about that one!
